After Mexico adopts its Constitution, it soon finds that it’s unhappy with the number of Americans moving into Texas. On April 6, 1830, Mexico forbids further American emigration into Texas and starts enforcing heavy taxes on the territory. The Texan-Americans and the Mexican government are now finding themselves at odds, and soon the Revolution will begin!
Supplies:
- white paper
- scissors
- tape
- Black marker
- Chopstick, small stick, or dowel
– First, let’s write our dates for section 3 of Lone Star Junction Timeline on our timeline. (Remember to put the date above the box and either write the event name or draw a picture.)
-Next, let’s read about The Battle of Gonzales. It was a pretty calm battle for the first battle of the revolution!

-Let’s make our own Come and Take It flag! Grab the white paper, scissors, tape, black marker, and chopstick (or other stick.)
- Cut the white paper in half (hamburger) so that you have two 8.5 X 5.5 pieces of paper.
- On one of these halves, draw your Come and Take It design.
- Tape your flag to the chopstick and give it a wave!
