Texas History 8 – The Battle of the Alamo

Nearly everyone has at least heard of the Alamo, that it’s a historic Texas mission where a battle was fought, but sometimes people forget that the Texans actually lost the battle! That’s right, Texas lost one of our most famous battles.

Parents/Adults: The Battle of the Alamo was not pretty for Texans, so please use your discretion in the following activities and videos. I have listed what I consider to be age appropriate videos and books, but you know your child best, so please review before letting them watch or read.

-First, let’s read about the Alamo.

-Next, head to your Texas History Writing Assignments and answer today’s questions.

-Add the Battle of the Alamo to your timeline from section 5 of the Lone Star Junction Timeline.

Students: Ask your parents which video you are allowed to watch.  Only click on the one they tell you.

Alamo Videos:

Ask to go to the library this week and find books on the Alamo.

These are my Alamo book suggestions, but feel free to find your own:

Ages 8+:

-Take a digital tour of the Alamo, then and now!  Use the slider on the bottom to go back in time.

Now let’s make a model of the Alamo! It doesn’t have to be to scale or look exactly like the Alamo, but just give it your best!  Here is an Alamo outline you can print to help you. Here are a couple of ideas for ways to make it:

  • -Out of clay
  • -Out of cardboard and cheerios
  • -Out of legos
  • -On Minecraft!
